CBSE Class-12 Compartment Exam 2019 : Question Paper-Basic Pattern Development



  •  Please check that this question paper contains 7 printed pages.
  •  Code number given on the right hand side of the question paper should be written on the title page of the answer-book by the candidate.
  •  Please check that this question paper contains 31 questions.
  •  Please write down the Serial Number of the question before attempting it.
  •  15 minute time has been allotted to read this question paper. The question paper will be distributed at 10.15 a.m. From 10.15 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., the students will read the question paper only and will not write any answer on the answer-book during this period. 

General Instructions :
(i) This question paper contains 31 questions, out of which the candidate needs to attempt only 23 questions.
(ii) Question paper is divided into two sections.
SECTION A
Multiple choice questions / Fill in the blanks/Direct questions : contains total 12 questions of 1 mark each. Answer any 10 questions.
Very short answer type questions : contains total 7 questions of 2 marks each. Answer any 5 questions.
Short answer type questions : contains total 7 questions of 3 marks each. Answer any 5 questions.
SECTION B
Long answer / Essay type questions : contains total 5 questions of 5 marks each. Answer any 3 questions.

This part of Section A carries 12 questions that carry 1 mark each. 
Attempt any ten questions from the following questions.
1. Define Princess line and draw its diagram.
2. Give two examples of set-in-sleeves.
3. What type of clothing is recommended for a person while giving his/her body measurements ?
4. Name any two cutting tools.
5. State the procedure for taking round bust measurements.
6. Define and illustrate scooped neckline.
7. How are overlap and underlap of placket placed in men’s and women’s garments ?
8. What are ‘tucks’ ?
9. Illustrate the symbols used for ‘gathers’ and ‘pivot point’ in a pattern.
10. What is ‘working pattern’ ?
11. How much seam allowance is generally marked at necklines in a pattern ?
12. Name any two elements of fit.
II. This part of Section A carries 7 questions that carry 2 marks each.

Attempt any five questions from the following questions.
13. Differentiate between designer’s dart and dressmaker’s dart with the help of illustration.
14. Enumerate and illustrate the body landmarks required for taking measurements of full length sleeve.
15. Differentiate between numbered sizes and lettered sizes.
16. What is lengthwise and crosswise grain ? Explain with illustration.
17. What are convertible and non-convertible collars ? Give examples.
18. Differentiate between knife pleats and box pleats.
19. What do you understand by the term ‘fit’ in a garment ?
III. This part of Section A carries 7 questions that carry 3 marks each.

20. Define ‘crotch’. How would you measure crotch length and crotch depth on the body ?
21. What do you mean by standard measurement chart ? What is its importance in ready-to-wear industry ?
22. Differentiate between flat seam and ridge seam.
23. What are crossway strips ? Where can they be used in garments ?
24. How would you adapt an adult’s bodice block to a sari blouse ?
25. Briefly explain the direct method of drafting.
26. How will you evaluate the fit of neckline and shoulder line in a ladies top ?
