NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST (NET) "DECEMBER 2014"
CENTRAL BOARD OF SECONDARY EDUCATION


On behalf of UGC, the Central Board of Secondary Education announces holding of the National Eligibility Test (NET) on 28th Dec 2014 (SUNDAY) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor Both in Indian universities and colleges. CBSE will conduct NET in 79 subjects at 89 selected NET Coordinating Institutions spread across the country.

Eligibility Criteria:

i) Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC (list attached page No. 17 to 41) in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. (list of subjects of post graduation attached at page No. 42 to 43) are eligible for this Test. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer / Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Persons with disability (PWD) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.

ii) Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of Junior Research Fellowship/eligibility for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master’s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of OBC (Non-creamy layer)/ SC/ ST/ PWD (Persons with disability) category candidates). Such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.

Age Limit:

 (i) Junior Research Fellowship: Not more than 28 years as on 01.12.2014. A relaxation upto 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC available on website: www.ncbc.nic.in )/SC/ST/PWD categories and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority. Three years’ relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing L.L.M. Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances.

(ii) Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor.

SCHEME AND DATE OF TEST :

i) The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 28th Dec, 2014 (SUNDAY) in two separate sessions as under:

Second III 150 75 questions all are compulsory 2 1/2 Hours (01.30 P.M. to 4.00 P.M.)

Paper–I

Shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. 60(sixty) multiple choice questions of 2 marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any 50(fifty). In the event of the candidate attempting more than 50 questions, the first 50 questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.

Paper-II

Shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

Paper–III

Will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

All the questions of Paper – II and Paper – III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options).

The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper – I, Paper – II and Paper – III on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided alongwith the test booklet.

The detailed instructions for filling up the OMR sheet are given on page 15 and 16. It may be noted that these instructions to candidate will not be sent to any of the candidate by post.

Syllabus of Test:

All questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options). Syllabi for all NET subjects can be downloaded from the UGC Website www.ugc.ac.in and are also available in the libraries of all Indian Universities. CBSE will not send the syllabus to individual candidates.

EXAMINATION FEE AND MODE OF PAYMENT :

For General candidates, the examination fee is Rs.450/-; for Other Backward Classes (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC available on website: www.ncbc.nic.in ), the fee is Rs. 225/- and for SC/ST/PWD candidates, it is Rs. 110/-.

i) The candidates may pay the examination fee either by credit/debit card or through echallan generated during the online filling of the application form. In case of echallan the payment should be made in the Syndicate/Canara/ICICI Bank. In case the examination fee is paid through credit/debit card the additional processing charges as following will also be debited from the credit/debit card of the candidate.

  • Credit Card:- 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable.
  • Debit Card:- 0.75% +taxes for examination fee up to Rs.2000

PROCEDURE & CRITERIA FOR DECLARATION OF RESULT:

This will comprise of following steps:

Step I: Minimum marks to be obtained in NET for considering a candidate for the award of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor:

The candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks separately in Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III as given below

Step II: Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.

Step III: Top 15% candidates (for each subject and category), from the merit list mentioned under step II, will be declared NET qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor only.

Step IV: A separate merit list for the award of JRF will be prepared from amongst the NET qualified candidates figuring in the merit list prepared under step III.

HOW TO APPLY:

  • Candidate seeking admission to the Test (UGC-NET, Dec, 2014) must apply online only on the CBSE website: www.cbsenet.nic.in

Important Dates:

  • Online Form Submission 15th October, 2014 to 15th November, 2014
  • Last date for Applying Online & generation of filled Bank Challan for Fee. 15th November, 2014
  • Last date of submission of Fee through online generated Bank Challan, at any branch of (SYNDICATE/CANARA/ICICI BANK) 18th November, 2014
  • Last date of taking printout of Application Form, Attendance Slip and Admit Card from website 19th November, 2014
  • Last date for receiving the printout of online Application Form (one copy) and Attendance Slip (one copy) at the respective Coordinating Institution opted by the candidate (with fee receipt & category certificate(s) 25th November, 2014
